Depaul Marks Two Decades of NI Homelessness Services

Press Release

Belfast, 22nd of May, 2025 – Depaul, a leading cross-border charity supporting people who are experiencing homelessness, will today mark two decades of service in Northern Ireland with an
event at City Hall in Belfast.

The milestone celebration was kicked off yesterday evening with the
lighting up of Belfast City Hall in Depaul’s colours – followed by an event hosted today by the Lord Mayor Micky Murray.

Since opening the doors to its first service in 2005, Depaul has supported thousands of vulnerable individuals across Northern Ireland.

In the last ten years alone, Depaul has supported more than
4,000 people and managed close to two thousand exits from emergency accommodation into permanent homes, including more than 600 children.

Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Micky Murray, said: “Depaul do amazing work in Belfast – much of which goes unseen. Having worked in the sector myself, I know the vital role they have played in the
lives of the thousands of people they have worked with over the last 20 years. I’m delighted to take this opportunity to celebrate two decades of service.”

Commenting on the milestone, David Carroll, CEO of Depaul noted: “We’re incredibly proud of 20 years of working in Northern Ireland. During this time we have grown significantly – today more than
450 people receive support daily across our temporary accommodation and our community outreach services. While the daily challenges in this time have fluctuated – lack of housing continues to be a significant and constant issue – coupled with the health inequalities and challenges for the population we serve.”

“What is and has been most important over the two decades, is that Depaul serves people who may otherwise be excluded and not receive the help and support they need to fulfil their potential and
change their circumstances for the better.”
